Packaging Engineer

Position Summary:

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the technical engineering, design and development of packaging materials, specifications, and systems. This includes identifying, presenting and implementing new innovations which create increased sales by adding benefit to the end customer. This position will also assist in proactive identification of potential environmental issues, evaluation of the optimum cost/value relationship of finished goods, and comprehensive support of our packaging systems. This position is located in Medford, Oregon.

Essential Functions:

• Assure that appropriate packaging is designed and utilized which provides adequate product protection, integrity and aesthetic consumer presentation at an economical cost.
• Provide leadership and expertise in the field of package engineering to identify, qualify, and implement new opportunities that improve productivity, material handling, product storage, and overall quality.
• Increase overall company profitability by providing expertise related to package material cost reductions and overall package manufacturing and handling system improvements.
• Propose creative utilization and prevent build up of obsolete packaging materials, thereby reducing holding inventory costs and improving overall product profitability.
• Establish appropriate test methods, material standards, and reporting guidelines that assure the proper packaging materials are purchased and utilized in the manufacture and shipment of products
• Utilize environmental friendly packaging materials to successfully execute product protection, financial and manufacturing objectives.
• Increase productivity and accuracy of packaging related communications.
• Provide input and expertise to assist in development of both long and short term operational strategic objectives.

Position Requirements:

• Four year degree in Packaging Engineering or other equivalent technical degree.
• 0-2 years experience preferred in package development in a high volume consumer products company. Will consider new college graduate with strong potential for growth and training.
• Proven success in handling projects and working in a team environment.
